Version 2.3

1. Changed the amortization table format to tab-separated columns for better compatibility with other documents (e.g., spreadsheets).

2. Clarified error messages to indicate which entry may be responsible for the problem.

3. Revised the Loans:Rate, Investments:Compoundings/Yr, Deposits:Deposits/Yr, Deposits:Rate, Withdrawals:rate and Inflation:Compoundings/Yr calculations to improve accuracy and expand the range of acceptable values.

4.Added a preference option for the amortization table calculation/display. Extremely large numbers of total payments (payments/yr times # years) can take a minute or more to calculate and display.

5. Added a preference to modify the currency indicator. The default is "$"; any one, two or three character symbol is acceptable. The new currency indicator is displayed when any [Compute ...] button is clicked, or when FinancesOSX is relaunched.

6. Improved the layout and consistency of the user interface and the Help file.

March 12, 2007 Version 2.2

1. Added calculation of the effective interest rate when prepaid interest (points) are charged for loans. Points are expressed as a percentage of the original loan amount.

2. Added summary rows to the amortization table. The starting payment (row) and the number of payments for each summary are set in the Preferences ... menu.

2. Made minor improvements to the interface and error trapping.

Version 2.1.1

(Replaced 2.10, which was incorrectly uploaded)

1. Added <Clear> to individual calculation screens and a <Clear All> menu item.

2. Added separate print commands for the calculation screen and the amortization schedule. Cmd-p prints the current calculation screen; opt-cmd-p prints the amortization schedule.

3. The <New> and <Revert> menu commands will now return the calculation screen if it has been closed or sent to the Dock.

4. Improved input checking. "Out of Range" is displayed if any input field is blank or zero, or if a calculation parameter is outside an acceptable value.

5. Made minor improvements to the user interface.

July 21, 2006 Version 2.00

1. Added loan amortization schedules.

2. Removed payment and interest totals from loan screens. These are now included in the amortization table.

3. Changed the calculation method for the Loans/Interest Rate and Withdrawals/Interest Rate to eliminate the need to monitor the interest rate per period. Removed the Interest Rate per period calculations.

4. Improved error trapping. "Out of Range" is displayed when inputs are outside the acceptable range for a calculation.

5. Made minor improvements.in the user interface.

6. Revised the Help file.

June 24, 2006 Version 1.65

1. Changed the inflation calculations to be consistent in format with the other calculations.

May 29, 2006 Version 1.60

1. Added display fields for the total amount of payments and interest for loans.

2. Added display of the calculated interest rate per period for the Loan:Annual Interest Rate and Withdrawals:Annual Interest Rate. The annual interest rate calculation is accurate only for values of interest rate per period below 5%.

3. Added Inflation calculation to show equivalent purchasing power of a future $ amount in today's $.

4. Made minor changes in the user interface.

March 17, 2006 Version 1.50

1. Recompiled as a Universal Application, to run on both the PPC (Motorola/IBM) and i386 (Intel) processors.

2. Corrected the calculations for Investments:Compoundings/Yr, Deposits:Deposits/Yr, and Deposits:Annual Interest Rate.

3. Added cautions for interest rate calculation accuracy for Loans and Withdrawals when the calculated rate exceeds 6% per Payment or Withdrawal period (i.e., number per year times number of years).

4. Added notes to Investment:Compoundings/Yr and Deposits:Deposits/Yr panels that the maximum number of annual compoundings or deposits is 365 (daily). The error code 999999999.99 is returned if this condition arises.

4. Removed field placeholders - some users were mistaking them for actual field values.

September 23, 2005 Version 1.20

1. Corrected calculations for Loan:Payments/Yr & Loan:Period in Years; and Withdrawals:Withdrawals/Yr & Withdrawals:Years of Withdrawals.

2. Introduced simple error checking for some calculations. If the chosen loan parameters will never pay off the loan, the loan period is shown as 1,000,000,000.00 - which is reasonably close to never. A similar result is shown for the years of withdrawals if the periodic withdrawal amount is not greater than the periodic interest earned. In other cases a returned result of NaN indicates the parameters are not within the bounds of the algorithm.

3. Minor improvements were made to the user interface.

September 21, 2005 Version 1.10

1. Corrected calculations for # Payments/Deposits/Withdrawals per year.

2. Modified background for main screen.

3. Added placeholders for input fields.

September 16, 2005 Version 1.00 Initial release
