Queen bed to king bed
« on: October 24, 2020, 06:22:11 PM »
We really like our coach but would also like to have a king bed. The nightstands on each side of the bed prevents us to have a wider mattress. We were wondering if anybody has ever converted their bed from Queen to King and how they were able to overcome the limited space available for a wider mattress.

Fred,
A king Sleep Number bed will fit. The mattress conforms to the tighter spacing between the night stands. We've used it successfully in our 2000 Marquis and current 2007 Contessa.

Steve, is this just the mattress itself? I thought the sleep number beds needed to have the framing too so the split mattresses can just up and down.

Fred,
We've got a mattress with dual controls so we can adjust the "firmness" separately. Key to comfort is the top layer of memory foam. We added a layer on top of the factory layer. Too little foam and it begins to feel like an old air mattress.

I thought about upgrading to a King too.

I was told the nightstands can be removed easily to fit a king mattress - but I have not confirmed this.
It was said the Corian table tops are held down with Velcro and then there are just a few screws inside the nightstand cabinet and it comes out. If I get to this upgrade before you I'll post back and confirm if it is that easy.

I assume you would also want to install a larger (ply)wood platform under the bed to match the bigger mattress. But maybe some mattress overhang is not an issue.

Overhang has not been a problem unless you want to sit on the very end (foot) of the mattress.

Oops! DW swears that we had a queen size sleep# in our Marquis. She remembered because we had to buy queens sheets when all our other beds are king. (I just supply the $ but she's the "supply officer"). Her memory is that our current coach was originally set up for a queen bed but BCS modified the night stands for a  king after we pointed out that the build sheet listed a king.
Sorry for the mis-information :(
