Where's the beep?
« on: March 21, 2021, 06:33:35 PM »
keyless entry issue. i replaced the number overlay on our '06 Monterey since it was rough and hard to press. My local signs and grafics lady made some perfect copies, but during the cleaning and installing I pressed a number or numbers and the pad started to beep when a number was pressed. It had never done that before, and I was thrilled. Unfortunatly, I somehow lost the beep when I installed the clear protective film. anyone have a clue on getting the beep back?  Don Colapietro, 06' Monterey

Don, the attached photo walks you through the process to toggle on and off your key pad beeps. If you need further help call Trimark  tech support at 800-447-0343.

After a rainstorm, our keyless entry pad stopped chirping when the keys were pressed.  I let it dry out for a few days and it started chirping again.  I then smeared a light coating of Lexel over the keypad and pushed in a bead of Lexel all around the keypad where it mates up with the coach's exterior wall.  It has been several years and it still works like it is new.

David makes a point.  If these touch pads get wet and aren’t very thoroughly sealed, the slightest moisture inside shorts them out until they dry enough to work again.  At times it would lock/unlock itself or beep on its own.

BCS replaced ours and it did it again several times during and after rain and washing.  The next time through Bend they replaced it again, but this time I asked them to seal the pad into the escutcheon and the escutcheon to the coach wall with Lexel.  No problem since, and I regularly examine the seals for integrity.  If needed, a smear of Lexel is easy enough.

One gripe I and others note is the surface deterioration of the pad, with discoloration, crazing, and bubbling.  Regular applications of UV protectants hasn’t helped that.

Our Beaver uses the keyless entry pad made by Essex. We had a random 'beep' for the first three years we had the coach. I couldn't find the source of that beep until I called Essex for another issue. Mentioning the phantom 'beep' to the excellent tech I was speaking to on the phone, he said the keypad was designed to do the random beeps as an indication that it was on its last legs. Had BCS replace the keypad and no more random beeps.
