Urgent help - broken wiper arm
« on: June 24, 2022, 09:28:25 PM »
Hi All

I am en route to Alaska and lost by driver’s side wiper arm somewhere in Montana.   It is marked with “MAOYI” and AM equipment does not seem to have a replacement.  Anyone know of where I might be able to get one overnighted to me?   Or an alternate that may be available?   Sorry driving and haven’t had a chance to go through the Coach Assist to check.  Thought someone might have a quick response.   I’m also reachable by phone or text at two zero two 394 0899 in case anyone has a quick solution.

Thanks
Anand

Thx.  No luck though.   Trying to hunt one down - all back ordered for new ones, will check on Monday for used ones from the FL place in the thread.   Going to try to move the passenger one to driver for now to manage for the trip, hopefully it doesn’t fail in the same way on removal.

Paul

Thanks.  It is a wiper technologies product, as I finally found the label and part numbers.   I’ll call them Monday.   For now, I’ve improvised and was able to bore out with a step bit a true vision arm I found at an RV shop in Calgary to fit, albeit with a smaller blade.  But it works.  As it is the splines were stripped so I have several problems to deal with.

Thank you for all the help.   So far in one week I’m having a blast fixing everything I can ;).  Wiper, Slide Seal, Busted door switch for the Washer/Dryer, broken Fantastic Fan, Cracked fridge water reservoir, bad Black tank valve, motorized blind, broken slide topper….. not complaining at all.  Been a great ride so far and it keeps my problem solving skills intact..  as always thankful for the thoughtful help here.

On a side note:  mechanically / chassis is rocking it, got a little hot pulling up I-70 West of Denver but otherwise running fabulous.   AND - The Starlink RV product is AMAZING.   Getting 125mb down and 35mb up where I have zero cell service.   It is a game changer and will be even more so when it operates while moving.

Anand, as you might have noticed I have a Newmar coach.  One item missing from all the owners manuals is the fact that the wiper arm nut must be torqued down to 70 ft/lbs.  After 24 hours you need to re-torque as the wiper arm metal has softened on the spline.  Found this out the hard way when in use the passenger side wiper arm moved off the window and rested on the mirror arm.  Also, in many cases, once the arm is removed from the spline it may have to be replaced since aligning the arm grooves and spline may not be possible.  I have backup arms as a result and use Rain-X to minimize the use of the wipers.  Not sure if Beaver coaches have a similar requirement.

Nice to hear about your experience with Starlink.  Does the dish automatically find the satellite or do you have to position it in a specific location as with the early tripod mounted dishes?

Happy Travels!

Anand,
Assuming your 07 uses same wiper assy as mine, follow mfgr's instructions on torque values. Mine was about 70 inch lbs if I remember correctly. Splines are copper and over torquing will destroy them, resulting in the need for a new shaft. Use a wire brush to clean splines before mounting new arm.

@Paul / @Steve thanks for the note on torque value.  Will check.  I think the splines are already gone, but let’s see if they can be saved at all.   Will probably need a new shaft and arm.

@Paul - Starlink finds the satellites automatically.  It really is a game changer for good Internet.  I’ve used it in CO, WY, MT, north of Calgary, and now in Dawson Creek.

As an alternative, I use RainX with great success. With the high angle on the windshield I rarely find a need to use the wipers in either ight or heavy rain. Coming from Western Washington I've had plenty of opportunities to experiment.
