Brake ?'s for 2001 Marquis Amethyst
« on: August 07, 2022, 08:20:49 PM »
Hi there, this is my first time using this forum.  I have a 2001 Marquis Amethyst 43.  From what I have been able to find on info from the BAC it is on a Magnum D(Blue Diamond) Chassis, it has Westport front axle and a Rockwell Drive axle and a Westport retractor tag axle.  I have her in a shop for brakes and they have only given me a quote getting the parts from BCS in Bend, OR  BCS will only give BCS part#'s and list the front rotors as BCS5601Y at $795 a piece and the rears as BCS8916 at $795 a piece and pads as BCS5265 at $649 a piece and I've been told I would need 3 so they are 2 wheel 4 pads each set.  This seems crazy high to me.  I saw a post from Gerald Ferris that listed pads and rotors but my concern is I am not sure if the rotors change between the front and rear as BCS did give 2 different part#'s.  I found either Meritor 3218K167 rotors at $409.18 each or Gunite R6198 at $235.67 and pads I found Meritor KIT15625PM at $360.  If you did the math BCS total $6690, total I found $2845.26.  Moral of that story is don't use BCS lol.  Anyway I am just wondering if anyone can verify I am on the right track here and answer if the front rotors are supposed to be different then the rears.  I wish I could tell you how much I love my rig but I haven't had a chance to get out in her yet lol

Mark,
Go to Coach Assist (Technical tab on BAC Website) and find Brake Systems in the Equipment Manuals section.

Mark,

Don’t know if they are different front to rear but when I did my 02’ Marquis the front rotors had very little wear due to the fact that the brake cans on the rear were a little heavier duty than the ones on the front. If memory serves me correctly I think the rears were type 36, and the fronts type 30. The rears had more braking power, making it harder on the rear rotors. My rears were all heat cracked, requiring replacement. At these prices today for parts, I would inspect fronts to see if they are still serviceable. New pads on the front may be all that is needed. Also, there is a spring kit upgrade for the Meritor calipers, two per caliper, make sure you install them also. Hope this helps.

Steve-I looked where you suggested but did not see any part #'s  Think I have what I need though.

Frank do you have a part #for that spring upgrade kit?

Thank you both.

Mark,

These are the cheapest one’s I found, https://www.finditparts.com/products/39506/arvin-meritor-kit15018 Napa, Amazon, E-bay all have them at various prices. You need 6 pairs for 3 axles. Hope this helps.
