Trailer brake controller wires
« on: February 08, 2014, 12:24:24 AM »
Has anyone been able to locate their trailer brake controller wires on a 2007-2009 Contessa? Monaco says to look for red, white, blue, and black wires going into a connector. I took the access panel off the dash, side console and removed the steering column enclosure and I cannot find them.

Ok, I was able to locate the connector in the side console. I don't think I would have found it without a wire tracer/tracker. The connector is in fact (as Monaco stated) a 6 pole connector with only 5 wires but they are not colored. They are all white and do have labels printed on them but they are hard to see because the wires are very short and there is no extra slack to pull the connector out. I'm posting my experience hoping that it may help others.

That side console seems to hide a number of optional device connections, including CB for example.  I didn't respond to your post because I have a different model coach, and you indicated you'd already looked in the console.  I don't use the controller that connector is intended for, using a Roadmaster Brakemaster instead, but your discovery should help others.  Thanks for posting, Chuck.

I assume you are talking about the panel where the transmission shifter and rocker switches are?  I got to install a controller and looked under the dash and did not see anything.  Came across your posting and am going to take a peek next time I give it a go.  Thanks again.  have a pleasant day.  Cheers.

Yes, the side panel under the trans shifter. I have a neighbor with an 07 Contessa and we could not find the trailer brake connector. I suggest you try using the wire tracer (sometimes called a sniffer). To help locate the wires.

Spare wires from rear of coach are normally found in front electrical bay in bundle on right wall as you are looking at bay.
