Front Slides and Generator slide do not work.
« on: June 11, 2023, 08:33:04 PM »
When we got to our new destination last week, our front slides would not go out on our 2008 Contessa.  I removed the nut on the piston to be able to manually pull the slide out a very meager amount.  I am just trying to understand what the components are that make it work.  To me, it looks like a solenoid connected to a hydraulic pump.  I barely had room to take a phot with my iPhone but was wondering about the correct fluid level in the reservoir.  It appears to be above the horizontal line on the reservoir.  I was able to remove the cap and stick my finger in the reservoir and get fluid on the end of my finger.  When we push to switch to take the slide in, (which they are already in), there is a slight dimming of lights in the bedroom, which would seem to indicate some contact is being made at least on the, moving the slides in position.  No dimming is noted when the switch is placed in the position to take the slides out.

Any clarification of component's and proper fluid level would be greatly appreciated.

Jerry,
With slides closed full fluid should be about 1/2 inch from top of reservoir. Will be less when open. If lights are dimming but you don't hear pump running, pump may have failed. Try opening/closing both front slides and generator to see if problem impacts all hydraulic run slides.

What would be the source for a new hydraulic pump?  Wife is getting tired of twisting and turning trying to traverse  the coach.  :-). I may have to call an RV tech, which I hate to do.

Jerry,
Assuming your 08 is the same as my 07 Contessa, it has a Lippert hydraulic system for the slides. It's located above the Aquahot. The part # info is on a sticker on the top side of the plate the system is mounted to so you'll need to get  mirror to read it. Lippert may regard it as obsolete so you may need to google the pump part # for alternate sources such as NW RV Supply in OR. It may pay to have an "expert" that knows Lippert systems look at if prior to throwing $ at  a pump. My 07 is currently in the shop for a similar problem; slides come by themselves and hoses are deteriorated. Mine is also leaking between solenoids. If rubber sheathing is falling off hoses they are reaching the end of their life.

So, this is what I found the culprit to be.  After twisting a wiring harness while I was checking voltages with my multimeter, I found this wire pulled out of a crimped connector on the solenoid.
