98 Beaver motor coach info.
« on: July 16, 2024, 06:00:14 PM »
hi all...first off thanks so much to those that have helped with responses....just got back from another trip down to the motorhome and need more info...as always !!

looking for any info on Windshield cover for the inside??  size    pre fab deflectors for the heat??

AC units.  2 on top...they work   turn on and blow cold air as they should....but...the roof covers are worn badly....cracked a bit in places....is there a direct replacement??  Dometic I believer??

and can they be recharged??   can I do it myself

additionally the genset   again...started right up.  ran for a minute or so. then stopped.   could not get it started again....wondering if the supply lines can rot out somewhere along the way??   where I cannot detect anything

forgot the new 40 inch tv....is there a mount that would work for a new smart tv??  I have it sitting on the dash right now..and was wondering if there is a mount that could work under the cabinets above the dash>.   and fold out word   or twds the back of the motor coach??

Thanks
Randy

Randy,

You can buy replacement covers for the AC units, just need to identify which covers you need.  From the factory they are not rechargeable, but you can add saddle valves if you are familiar with AC units.

I am not sure what deflectors you are referring to.

For the generator you will need to see what code it shows.  Check on line for how to find the code.  I am guessing you have the Onan 7.5 QD.

As for the TV there are numerous mounts that will fit and let you swing the TV out.  Mine is mounted on the original TV cabinet.  I screwed 1 inch thick oak boards to the inside of the cabinet and mounted the bracket where the TV covered the opening.  Its rode that way for over 10,000 miles.

Here's a source for interior sun shades.

Regarding RV windshield and window shades, try looking in Amazon using this search argument, "rv windshield shades".  There you will find both interior and exterior shades.  I prefer shades on the exterior of the windshield and windows to stop the sun's heat before it enters the coach.

Another idea, depending upon the thickness of your wallet, is Magne Shade.  These are held in place on the exterior of the windshield with very strong magnets.  Unlike the snap-on exterior shades we have, the Magne Shades are mounted from the ground using a telescoping cane to lift the shade up to the pre-affixed magnets located on the inside of the glass.

For your A/C cover on your coach I believe you have a pair of Dometic penguin duo therm A/C units you will have to verify this.
Those units are out of production and parts are hard to come by but there is a Canadian company that produces the upper shroud for them
The Company's name is Icon direct.
The price seems high but when you work out the US to Canadian dollar exchange rate you will be presently surprised at or near 35%
I have a pair of these on my coach and they fit a little tight getting them on but they have been up there now for five years and still look great

Here is a link to the covers.

Hope this helps

Thanks again Eric!!!  looked up the company from Canada...now I just need to verify which units I have....I really wish I could recharge the units....but.. I am not a refrigerant guy...so...I'll just live with what I have....it does get it cooler in the motorhome but on those 100 degree days you can feel it beating down thru the roof

ill be back down there in a few weeks so ill do some more research

thanks for all your help

If the units still work they are likely still charged properly as they are hermetically sealed
One thing you will want to do though while you have the covers off is to open up the evaporator box and give the evaporator core a good cleaning as over time they will collect dust and dirt on the fins which will slow the air flow through it and kill the units ability to cool.
Also check the condenser fins clean and straighten any which are bent over blocking air flow and while your there put a drop of oil on the fan motor shafts.
