Bose stereo system speakers
« on: August 04, 2024, 07:59:53 PM »
So my Beaver motor coach. 98 Patriot is equippped with numerous Bose speakers that are basically brand new. But unusable as someone removed the control unit.   The amp is still in place but the main control for sound is gone.   Ideas ??   What has everyone done

Randy,

On my 98 Patriot I trashed the amp and the 6 cd changer and replaced them with a cheap Pyle DVD/CD/MP3 Player and I reused the Bose speakers.  I had read that they would not work well with non Bose equipment, but they sound fine to me.  I stripped out a few miles of unneeded wire and connected the Front TV to the Pyle unit as well.

After all that I rarely use it!  I can watch DVD's from it, but usually stream.  I can stream music to it from one of our phones, but usually just use the same small bluetooth speaker we use outside.  I can use it for a sound bar for the front TV, but a simple sound bar does fine with less effort.   I can also tune in radio stations, but rarely listen to the radio inside the RV unless I am driving.  Even then my wife streams Pandora to the dash radio, which uses two front speakers

So I have it, it works, but it largely goes unused.

Hopefully this will give you a direction to to in.  The cost involved is minimum, but you may want a better head unit than mine.  For me it is nice to have everything work and options for those rainy days I hope to never have.

Randy,

Mine is a PLRST400,  I'm not sure if it is still made, but a similar model surely is.  They are also made by Kenwood, Sony, Jenson, and a hand full of others.  Mine just happened to be on ebay at a decent price.  I did have to cut a piece of plywood to fit the cabinet opening and mount the unit.  It is the same cabinet that the Bose power amp used to live in, so lots of room and easy access to the necessary wires.  I also used some of the old wires as pulls to attach the video cable to the TV.

My wife and I stream a lot of audio in various ways, Spotify, an audio file on our phone or laptop etc. We also like higher quality sound (within reason) and already had a Yamaha R-N303 receiver which is decently rated by audiophiles. I replaced the Sony receiver and VCR, with the Yamaha. I can connect through bluetooth, Wifi, stream, fiber from the TV etc. The only downside is that the inverter needs to be one for it to work. I'm sure their are other receivers that will suffice and fit your needs but this has worked perfectly for us.

I modified the area above the windshield and stairs where the old, out of date satellite equipment had been.  I placed a Marantz NR1510 compact surround receiver in that cabinet.  It barely fit, but it worked.  There was already AC power in there, so that was no issue.  I bought a Klipsch 5 channel speaker system from Costco including a wireless sub.  I located all of the wires that were connected to the Bose surround speakers and added onto them as necessary to connect them to the new receiver.  The Klipsch surround speakers fit nicely where the old Bose speakers had been.  I mounted them with a ball mount setup I found on Amazon that will thread straight into the back of the speakers.  I put the wireless sub behind the driver's seat.  Required wiring between the receiver and TV (above the driver) is routed through the cabinetry above the windshield.   There is a pass through all the way across.  The sound is simply amazing and it has all of the new features such as bluetooth streaming.  I'm really happy with this setup and I'd bet you it sounds better than the original Bose system.  Best of luck with your project.  In addition, I put my Dish TV equipment in the cabinetry above the windshield next to the receiver so we always have satellite TV.
