Hi Folks, I just want to suggest you all look at your hydraulic lines that run off the PTO on your engines to drive the Cooling fan and the Power Steering. They were installed at the factory in such a way that areas of the lines rub on frame parts. I had an issue a couple years ago with the fan line that failed due to a hole in the line that was rubbing on the fan bracket. That happened on I 15 heading into Las Vegas and I was fortunate to get parked before anything real bad happened , other than about 5 gallons of ATF on my Towed vehicle. Most recently, en route to St George Utah, I had a total failure of the power steering on my 45,000 lb Patriot Thunder while driving at 63 MPH on the I 15 south of Salt Lake City. We were able to get the coach and our TOAD off the side of the road but things would have been catastrophic if we had been in a mountain pass or busy city. This line runs from the PTO to the fan. We dumped about 10 gallons ATF this time on the road and over the Tow vehicle. Needless to say if was a very expensive tow on a flatbed and an equally unwelcome repair bill. The folks from Dearden Truck Company provided the tow and were wonderful, as was Premier Freightliner in Salina Utah. We were back on the road in two days.
We are grateful that only our bank account suffered though. Please have these lines inspected!
