RPM gauge

Steve Huber:
Gentlemen,
The 2002/03 Patriot wiring diagram (same chassis & engine selections as the 2000 Marquis) shows the tach signal comes from the ECM. See page 13 of the diagrams.
Suggest you not put a meter on the signal as the ECM outputs can be sensitive if not buffered.

It appears Steve is correct that the tach in the latter coaches were driven by the ECM.
So sometime between 1996 and 2000 beaver changed their system.
About the only way to verify if it has an alternator driven tach is to look at the back of the alternator for the presence of a stator tap wire connected to the alternator as that is the only thing a stator tap is used for.

Either way the signal to the tach weather it be alternator driven or ECM driven should be an A/C signal and can be read with an A/C voltmeter just be careful not to short the signal to ground.

Hey Eric thank you . And yes sir you are very correct . I’ve since found out that my tack gauge is the problem, it’s no good , I need to find a replacement, either a used one that’s working or a new one or send this one out to be repaired . But that was driving me crazy, I had to prove it was the gauge itself or I was going to go to the next part of the troubleshooting . If you know where I might get it fixed or a replacement one that would be great .

Scott Hinote:
First I want to thanks Steve and Eric for helping me figure out the gauge was bad . Now I’m looking for either a used working gauge or maybe there’s somewhere I can send it to and have it repaired, or lastly a new one. Thanks everyone you’ve been very helpful .

Try Visone RV salvage they have some used original gauges just have to identify the one you need.
Most of the Magnum chassis used teleflex gauges branded with the Magnum logo.
