Stubborn Fantastic Fan connectors

So I ultimately installed the available replacement motor assembly, though as time allows I hope to repair the old one by modifying a splined Swisco crank extension similar to what was suggested, because manual cranking up the fan lid against the motor’s resistance is much more difficult, so I’d like to have the old one’s “transmission” feature.  The new ones don’t have that.

My issue now with the new one is that the thermo control seems to be affected.  Does anyone know if switching the wires during the motor assembly install, as in its instructions - red to black/white and black to red, affects the operational direction of the thermoswitch?  At first, a few weeks ago, it seemed to open the hatch when the temp knob was rotated to the cooler (blue) side, in a much different position on the dial than on our other fan;  but then the other day in our hot ambient temperatures here it had to be turned all the way clockwise, to the hottest setting.  Today the lid won’t open and the fan come on at all.  Admittedly I need to check the fuse, but I know of no reason it would blow.

Regardless, might the switching of the two wires affect the thermoswitch, such as reversing its response via a rheostat?  I assume it’s just a bimetallic strip that stretches and shrinks with temp changes to close and open contacts, and moving the dial simply changes the tension or gap, so I’m not sure how reversed motor wires would change that.

Cool rain finally came this evening to the Northwest and I went in the coach to check things.  The bath fan wasn’t running and had closed, but the supposedly repaired galley one was wide open and spinning away.  I turned its temp switch both directions but nothing changed.  I turned the speed switch to “0” to stop the fan, and cranked the lid closed manually. 

That was a job;  turning the knob against the resistance of the motor was more than difficult.  No way could my wife do it.  I hate that they quit making the “transmission” version, and can’t imagine why.  If I have time I hope to get a Swisco crank (window) extension and engineer it as a replacement for the stripped splined connector I took off the old motor assembly, and reinstall it.

Regardless, I don’t quite understand why neither the thermo knob, nor apparently the rain sensor, aren’t working.
