caps coming off
« on: June 09, 2026, 09:03:39 PM »
My coach has black rims, and I wanted to put black hub caps with chrome lug nuts. My lug nut will only alow push-on caps. The problem is that the front and back hub cap holes are 1 11/16 in (33 mm), while the lug nuts are(1.5) 32 mm.  In other words, the hole that slips over the nut is larger than the chrome cap of 1.5 inches. When I drive down the road, the cap vibrates and pushes the push-on cap out, which inturn alows the hubcaps to fly off. Any idea on what I should use to stop that?

   George,
I do not have an answer to your question, Most truck stops have an assortment of lug nut covers and hub caps, Perhaps Eric may chime in with a solution, Fred

George
There are a couple of different types of top hat hub covers used some have a bracket that bolts under the wheel nuts and has a pair of screws which come in from the side of the top hat to engage the bracket others have a much similar bracket with a stud that stands straight out and the top hat is secured to the stud via fancy nut.
The large top hat covers used on the rear drive axle are not meant to be held on by the the wheel nut decorative caps they should be held in place by the wheel lug nuts.
If you look closely at the top hat cover you will see the holes in the outer collar where the lug nut  go through ,  every second hole is large enough that the wheel nut will pass through but the others should be smaller than the wheel nut so the wheel nut will clamp them in place.

Maybe a picture of your set up can help identify what we are dealing with.

Hope this helps
