Roof paint sealant ??
Randy Keaveny:
Looking for recommendations on roof re sealing re painting. 99. Beaver. Patriot
Thx.
Randy
Fred Brooks:
Greetings Randy,
I would recommend Dicor self-leveling sealant for all roof openings such as vents, antennas, skylights, ect. Clean existing surfaces with alcohol or laquar thinner and apply a liberal amount with a throw-away paint brush.
For the fiberglass roof I recommend Rustoleum marine Topside Deck paint, #396959 Gloss white. It has a sanded finish for no-slip application in the event you have to be up there when the roof may have dew on it. 3 quarts will give you 2-coats of cover and will last 3-4 years if stored in the sun. Hope this helps, Fred
Randy Keaveny:
Thx. I'll look that up.
Randy Keaveny:
Can the roof be pressure washed ?? It should it be hand scrubbed ?? And with what type of solution ???
Suggestions. Fur cleaning the roof prior to cleaning ??
Carl Boger:
Randy,
While it's probably not the best idea I have pressure washed mine with a cheap Harbor Freight electric pressure washer. It doesn't have anywhere near the power of my Honda Gas pressure. It did remove most of the dirt, but I still needed to use a brush mounted to a handle to scrub the toughest spots. I also kept the tip at least 6 inches from the roof.
My gas unit would certainly do damage to the roof. This electric unit works well on painted surfaces , cars, and has never damaged anything.
You may end up with one that has too much power so proceed with caution.
