This cylinder is in the bay above my fuel tank (excuse the dust and dirt). It appears to be hydraulic, with lines going off to somewhere buried in the centre of the coach. I have no idea what this cylinder could be for as it is not attached to anything, nor do I believe anything can be attached to it. I have not had anyone watch to see if it extends or retracts when slides are moved. Probably not a big deal as it isn't bothering anything (that I know of). More to see what it might (or should) be. Thanks Lee for the explanation. I also found what I then presume is a similar cylinder for the driver's side slide. This one is larger and goes perpendicular to the coach (above the propane tank), with the plunger going to the passenger side. One would think that these aren't necessary - basing this from what I have seen on many pieces of farm equipment I have used, one pump (on the tractor) manages many different cylinders all retracting/extending at the same rate. But I am not a hydraulics expert. Jeffps. sorry the pic is upside down.
