Disappearing headlights
« on: April 11, 2013, 07:37:10 AM »
So, I plan on doing the dim headlight fix, but before I jump in to that, I have a more immediate problem.  Low beams work fine (but dim) but when I step no the high beam foot switch, headlights go out.  Bad foot switch or ????

Thanks in advance for your help.

Always hated those switches in my older vehicles and now have one again in the MH.
Years ago I would notice when the floor switch no longer felt like a clean clik on and off.  First time it feels sticky or like it isnt smooth I replace them and start looking at the headlight switch as well

Sounds like a bad switch. You can check to see if you are getting a signal from it by measuring the voltage between TB1-5 and gnd in the electrical bay. TB1-5 should be the high beam signal from the switch. (There is schematic diagram in the written headlight instructions).

My Marquis does not have a headlight dim/high beam foot switch.  All Toronto  city buses I drove   had foot switches for the indicators/flashers as well as for the headlight dimmer.  It means you do not have to take your hands off the wheel to activate either system.  A very big safety feature.

I have never driven my 2001 Marquis at night.  I don't know where the headlight dimmer switch is for my coach.  Sounds stupid I know.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a question regarding 4-way flashers. I live on a semi-busy street, so when backing in to my parking pad, I like to have the 4-ways on. However, when I step on the brake, the 4-ways stop, and I only have brake lights. Is there a way to change that?

Richard, on my 98 it's one of the old floor mounted foot switches, just to the left of the steering column.

Stan, I had that problem on a 1972 Chevy Pickup about 20 years ago.  If I remember correctly, it ended up fixing itself.  Not much help.  Sorry.
