Dave:

I bought my Magnum directly from Amazon during a brief period when it was selling them at a price well below standard retail.  However, from what I can tell Magnum must have tightened things up and the last time I checked Amazon the devices were only available from Amazon Marketplace vendors (not from Amazon directly) and the prices were the same to the penny.

Dave the answer to you question about house batteries is cost. The sealed batteries are AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries and they cost about twice as much as lead/acid batteries. The AGM batteries are a little more efficient in recharging and they may save you a few minutes of generator time, but on average they do not last longer than a good lead/acid battery. So if it is worth $600 to you to not worry about watering your batteries and controlling the corrosion, get AGM batteries. Otherwise get lead/acid batteries and spend the money elsewhere.

Dave,

It is simply and issue of cost. If it is deep cycle and sealed it is likely an AGM or a variant of that technology which is expensive. so some will find it worth the expense and some will go out and water their garden of batteries.

Thanks guys ,Ihadnt looked into the cost yet, I only need four for this unit, so I'll see what kind of price I can wrangle out of my local battery guy, but if it's $200.00 per battery, I think I will just throw a little water in them occasionally

Consider the Kirkland 6v deep cycles at Costco.
