Need Help with Beaver door
« on: January 05, 2015, 10:39:06 PM »
Ok now my door problem has become an emergency. We returned to the coach today and the outside handle broke off and I had to crawl thru a window to access.
Now I need to seek parts and repair but I need to fix the door so we can go in and out. We have a deadbolt we can use but how can I disable the upper and lower locks so we can close the door. Do those little pegs that catch the locks come off the door facing? If they can be removed I can just shut the door and use deadbolt.
Anybody have a suggestion??

I don't have access to my coach right now so I can't check but on a car, those posts have a Torx fitting in the end and use the Torx driver to remove them. Is there one in the end of the post?

Ok, so it sounds like they are an Allen head.  They should unscrew but they may have a nut on the backside.

Get in touch with BCS in Bend and I'll bet they have the outside latch. Do you know what part of the latch assembly broke?

Thanks Chuck I will see if they unscrew in the morning.

Lee I will try to take apart and get a part # the part that broke was the handle.

Our handle brook just as we were trading the Contessa in.  We were able to get a small vise grip on the handle to make it work.

I have attached the photo of the door jamb post which catches the locking mechanism. Can anybody tell me if and how these could be removed or even adjusted??

Loosen the door post bolt and it will move. Mark the edge, loosen move tighten try door keep doing until you get the door to close tight.

Thanks for reply Lee. I did assume it could be moved but I am still trying to determine HOW to move it. Is there a nut behind the wall to access or just HOW does one loosen it.
My outside handle broke and I think I need to actually remove the plats so I can shut the door and lock with the deadbolt until I get to a repair facility.

With what do you loosen the bolt?  Looks to me like it is a wrench of some sort that fits inside the bolt.  Can anyone be specific?

With that large flange, I'm guessing you can't rotate the post. I'm guessing maybe there is a nut on the back side?

The post will come off the door frame the nut is inside the frame and will not be removed. FYI if you reinstall the post this should move when tight I use a little Tight Lock(blue) on the threads or the darn thing will just keep getting loose.
