Jon, something else to look for is a white "reed switch and magnet" that monaco and beaver add to the step mechinism to control the dash light that indicates whether the step is in or out. Sometimes when stuff is changed, or worked on the magnet comes loose. The default position when the step is in, you should see the magnet parallel with the reed switch with a 1/4" gap between them.
