Front electric curtain and drapes?

1996 36' Beaver Monterey. A real newbee...the more I learn, the less I know. Just took down the windshield drapes to replace and found the electric curtain, like a shade able to cover the full windshield. Why do people use a electric curtain shade and drapes???

On my 06 PT it has electric black shades to use while driving and the full electric curtain to cover the whole windshield and door at night while parked. In cold weather the curtain keeps it much warmer inside and helps to block the sun if you are parked facing the direct sun.

We decided to remove the drapes from our rig (06 PT) I had MCD install day and night electric roll down shades this means we no longer have to add day shades when parked for extended stays. The other thing I like about this system is the up to date appearance.  We also added side shades Day & Night (manual) in the cockpit.
