Nice to be Level Again
« on: May 16, 2015, 05:04:31 AM »
Couple of weeks ago returning from TX we lost the inside dual on the passenger side just west of Van Horn TX. We'd been fighting 30 mph headwinds all day and it forced me to stop and fuel up at a truck stop east of Van Horn that had a real rough turn around area. Suspect I picked up something there. In any case, Coach Net was great. The tire guy was at the coach in less than 30 min and installed a replacement so thought I was good to go. Nope. The inner fender liner was torn up and it apparently got an air bag. I went brain dead and forgot that the Marquis was an 8 bag coach rather than a 4 bagger like the Contessa, so I drove back to AZ with the right rear listing at about 15 degrees. DW was not happy and when I suggested it was training for a sailing yacht in our future, she let me know in "gentle" but unmistakable terms what I could do with my sailing ideas. After having to do some searching for a replacement bag and having shipping problems, we got the coach back today. Paid $400 for the tire service, almost the cost of a 10 sensor TPMS so I ordered one that I'll install tomorrow. The fun never stops....

Thanks Steve, what TPMS have you decided on.  I have been looking around for one but don't really know enough to sort out the good info from the fluff on advertizements.  And I agree with your wife, going down the road with a pronounced list would drive this old Sailor nuts!
Take care

Jerry,
I installed the Tire Safe Guard system today. Got the 10 sensor unit with flow through sensors on the coach. Looks like it will be fine as it picks up the toad with no apparent problems. Couple of things though; if your rear outer valve stems face inward you need to loosen the nut and swing them toward the outboard to mount the large sensors, Also found that the braided metal valve stem extenders won't work on the inner duals. The sensors wouldn't screw on far enough to contact the O ring at the bottom of the sensor even though I had plenty of thread left. On Gerald's advice I got some 7" rigid metal extenders that worked fine.
