Hazard Flashers

So I'd like to use my 4-way emergency flashers on long downgrades, like truckers do, to draw attention to the fact I'm headed downhill slowly using the Jake brake. Only thing is, when the Jake brake is on my emergency flashers won't flash. They won't flash while I have the brake pedal depressed, either. Work fine otherwize. A few weeks ago we traversed Teton Pass, between Victor ID and Jackson Hole Wy; its a long 10% grade on both the up and down. The two-speed Jake brake worked wonders, and I could descend as slowly as I wished; but I would like to be able to use the 4-way flashers to warn others of my slower speed. What say you, is this how the flashers are supposed to operate?

I know truckers do it but...at least in Florida it is illegal.  Flashers signify a vehicle stopped on or near the roadway.  Not sure about all states but usually when something is illegal in one state it is illegal in most states.
Something to consider!

Well, I learn sumptin' every day, Thanks Jerry! Does your Beaver deactivate the hazard lights when you have the Jake on? Or while braking?

Bill, on my coach the brake lights are activated when Jake is on. I suspect that when the Jake is activated it overrides the flasher circuit. In any case, the brake lights are activated to let people know that you are slowing down or coming to a stop. Hope this helps.

Traveling over the Rockies last week in Colorado and Utah, in several instances, there were signs that said slow moving vehicles MUST use flashers.

Mine operates the same as yours, Bill. When the Pac Brake is engaged, they engage the brake lights, and cut out the flashers.

On all vehicles - when your hazard lights are on and you step on the brake pedal, the brake lights will go solid (where the hazard lights are using the same bulbs as the brakes lights) until you take you foot of the brake pedal.
