Basement Air Inlet Filter Size??
« on: June 30, 2015, 04:00:26 PM »
The manual calls for a 20" by 24" filter and I would like to confirm this.  Heading into town today and need to pick up a couple of spares.

Thanks for any input.

     Hi Dick,

The one in my coach was a weird measurement something like 10" x 18" anyway, I went to Ace and a few other places and never did find it. I ended up buying a universal filter material and cut to fit. Fred

Dick,
Pull your existing filter(s) before getting new ones. Mine are similar to Fred's but I don't remember dimensions. Could not find a single filter but found 2 at ACE that fit side by side in opening. Used duct tape to join them.

Dick,
There are two different locations (on the side (accessible through the basement) and above the unit (accessible from outside the coach) and several sizes of filters that were used on Marquis basement A/C units, so you will need to remove the old filter and match it on your first filter change. My coach uses a 36 by 18 side mount filter that is hard to find. Therefore, I sometimes use two 18 by 18 filters and duct tape them together.

Thanks for the replies.  Unfortunately, I just noticed that BCS delivered the coach without a filter in place so I'm sort of swinging in the wind.  Looking down the return air vent I can see the frame for the filter and it's about 18" wide so I'm thinking the 10X18 is about correct.  Access to it is via a cover above the air inlet ducts for the outside fan.

Of course the temps here in Lebanon, OR are at record highs so I'm running the AC without a filter and need to resolve this issue without excessive delay.  Just to add to the drama, I bunged up my left arm and that is the one I need to access the filter cover.

Fred, what is this stuff you were referring to that you cut to size??

         Hi Dick,

I'm pretty sure I bought it at home depot, 36 x 36 blue universal air conditioner return filter. It is enough to make 2 filters and you can hose em down to clean. About $8 or 9 bucks. Fred

My 2000 Beaver Marquis Amethyst uses 12 x 18 x 1 in  Merv 13  pleated filters that I  buy on EBay.       They measure a tad smaller than 12x18 ....say 11.75 x 17.75 in. I add a strip of self adhesive foam  to give a good fit.   Very cost efficient compared to store bought.   Changing the filter bimonthly keeps the coils nice and clean.
Do an EBay search.....several suppliers will come up.  U cannot buy an exact size even if you spec 12x18 the actual size will come out as above !!!! here is the link to my supplier.

Just a follow up.

I bought a case of filters from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008LR88FI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

and just changed today.  The first one was a pleated and lasted for almost 2 months but the pressure drop was enough to bow it inward and it wasn't seating as well as I would like.  This is why I went to the spun stye, now it's not bowed.  Granted it's filtration isn't as good but should be good enough to protect the coil just not removing pollen and such.  This one fit perfect so that was good.

Jeremy, I do like the construction of the ones you bought and may give them a go when I next order.
