ESCO ES-50 Transfer Switch not working
« on: September 05, 2015, 01:11:54 PM »
Has anyone tried "repairing" their ATS or is it recommended just to replace the whole thing if it doesn't work?

My service guy finally got to look at my coach and we determined the generator is putting out the correct voltage and it's reaching the input side of the ATS but the relay isn't tripping to pass it thru to the coach.  We tried tapping on the relay and that didn't seem to help.

He wasn't sure if the relay was bad or of the circuit board behind it was at fault.

Whats the recommendation for buying one from a junk yard, is that not recommended because of sitting so long without use?

I've found ESCO's current version of the same model and it's around $200.

Thanks,

Tim,

Probably best to replace it. The relay contacts can get pitted over the years and a new one would likely have better circuitry from the manufacturers learning over the years. One thing to consider, there are AC coil and DC coil versions of relays used in these units depending on the design. The ones with DC coils in general are quieter and do not buzz.

Mine is in the basement, so not sure if the buzzing would be noticeable.
I haven't heard it, but that may be because it's broke, so it's hard to say.
