DIY replacement of springs on a Carefree of Colorado Fiesta awning

The wife and I replaced both springs on our large curbside awning this afternoon and it was fairly easy.  We changed them in the down position. The parts were bought from carefree through Amazon.  At about 12 of the 16 turns you start to understand the safety concerns on this project.  Short moment of joy, now about that next project......

We managed to fix our springs.... They were detached from the hub... We reattached ours with a $5 clamp from tractor supply.

The back spring was broke on ours and the front one had stripped the threads on the hub. The front could have been fixed by your method.  We still have a window awning that's not working right, if the spring or springs aren't broken I can try the clamp.  Although the tube size is smaller on that one.  What type of clamp did you use?
