C-9 Re-gen code 3246
« on: October 12, 2015, 04:31:17 AM »
Attention Dan Murphy back again, same problem you experienced at Madison FMCA Re-gen
failure to light ( code 3246 ). How is your engine working at present. Have party with Re-gen
failure to light, Cat says turbo is bad, the same story you recieved at Madison, Wis. The code
3246 indicates inlet of DPF has build up of soot and oil which disables Re-gen to light. Party is
going to remove his motorhome from service shop and do some shopping. At Branson you
said everything was working great.  Dave Atherton Retired Cat Mechanic

Dave
Our C9 engine is running like a top since our recent "tune-up" work in Marion In.When we spoke in Branson we had only gone about 400 miles. We have now gone thru a couple tanks of diesel and we are pleasantly surprised that we have also improved our miles per gallon. Wen have gone from 7.6 to 8.4 mpg. There are no lights flashing and all seems well. We are traveling again today as we head to Florida for the winter.I'll keep you posted.
Thanks Dave for all your help.

Thanks Dan, that is good news, just because Service repair shops get your motorhome inside
there shop and tells  you what needs replacement of many parts. The end results, do not let
anyone start removing parts so you cannot move motorhome and get a second review as you
would with a Doctor.
My advice for motorhome Diesel engine owners, preventive maintance. Taking SOS Oil Samples
and ECM computer baseline readout. Having both provides information that will prevent many
unnessary repairs. There are two kinds of ECM Computer read outs, one will show fault codes.
logged codes and event codes if present. Than advanced read/out will breakout everything that
ECM has stored since startup when built. Dan the ECM readout really helped since Madison and
traveled to next Rally and returned back home without problems. Cat Dealers really do not like
doing read outs unless work is being preformed. Thanks for report.
