Norcold 1200. LRIM

My Norcold will not maintain a constant temp. When I check it first thing in the morning before it is ever opened it will sometimes read 36 and sometimes as high as 46 but usually around 44. It doesn't seem to make a difference how full it is. I had 2 small fans that the Amish supply when I changed to their cooling unit. The cold control usually is set on 6. The original cooling unit also varied but did not get quite as cold. Am I just expecting too much?

I have the same refrigerator in my 2001 Contessa.

I had the cooling unit replaced in 2012 when it was determined to be bad.

Since then the recall black box has had to be replaced three times. The overheat sensor has been replaced twice.

The frig seems to keep a steady temp of 39 degrees and the freezer is 0 to -1 at all times. I keep it set at 5 now that its so hot out and it is steady.

I replaced the icemaker a year ago also.

Doug,
You may have a partially blocked cooling coil. This video may be of some help.

For anyone in the NW I can highly recommend Hillstreet Propane Refrigeration Repair located in Enderby, British Columbia. I had my Norcold 1200 LRIM rebuilt at this shop in the spring. They have experience rebuilding hundreds of our refrigerators and guarantee their work with a seven year warranty.

Doug,
I also have the Norcold 1200 LRIM and was experiencing the same issue.
Are you experiencing this problem on both LP and Electric ?
LP worked fine on mine unit, my issue was with Electric only.
1) I replaced the Thermistor which is simple fix and a good first place to start. It is attached to the cooling cools and plug into light fixture.
This did not correct my issue but the Thermistor does control temp within Norcold and could be your problem.
2) I used an amp/ohm meter to check both heating elements. This is not difficult and will confirm whether they are within tolerance.
You can find spec's on amps and ohms on web. Both of my elements were within tolerance.
3) At this point I was stuck. Searched the web and found www.Norcoldparts.com
For $40 you can communicate with a retired Norcold Tech.
After several emails the Tech had me check for AC voltage on the 12 Volt input. It turned out that I had a bad diode on my inverter that was passing AC voltage
through the 12 volt line which causes the Norcold to go crazy. I have yet to repair my Inverter but as long as the Inverter is shut off my Norcold works fine.

Best $40 I have spent, my Norcold is working fine now as long as Inverter is off. I will get Inverter fixed one day but at least I can keep food cold until I do.

Doug,
I just checked the Norcoldparts.com site and couldn't find the link to the Norcold Tech.
I found the following site which I believe is the same guy I worked with.

http://thenorcoldguy.com/norcold-technical-support-repair/

The Tech I worked with was named Brian Currier.

Hope this helps,
