We are experiencing warm weather and our satellite receiver is overheating. There is a fan behind a grill for venting compartment but can't locate switch to activate it. Is this something previous owner did or was this a factory item. I found a cabinet fan on the web with a thermal switch and its ac

Roy,
Check to  see if you have any voltage to the fan. I'm not aware of any separate switch for it. Could be a bad fan.

Hello Roy , on my system that fan is powered on the STEREO switch for the Bose system. Mine has 2 fans, one in the overhead under the Sat controller, the 2nd for the Bose amp under the dash passenger side.My STEREO switch is above the driver with the TV multiswitch.I disconnected the fan leads at the stereo switch ,pulled 12v off switch and added separate toggle switch. Now I just switch on as needed. Looking for thermostat to add to system. That would be best.

I found a 110 v fan on Amazon with a thermal switch turns on at 90 off at 75. I have a 110 v plug in, in the cabinet. Thank you so much for your reply!

Roy,

That sounds like an interesting fan for electronics, could you post a link to it.

Thanks Ed

Roy,

Thanks for posting. I did catch this comment of one person who reviewed it. While it may not be a show stopper, it might alter how you mount the unit, perhaps recessed a bit in the cabinet. This would be ideal if you could extend the sensor wiring and put it in the top of the cabinet above the receiver.

"The temp sensor is attached to the back of the fan, so when installed in an enclosure for an exhaust, the sensor is on the outside!?! I had to return it and get something else."

Roy,
IMHO you would be better off simply plugging a non- thermostatically controlled AC fan into same outlet that the sat rcvr is plugged into. If it is the switched outlet (comes on when Ignition is off) it will run only when you are parked.
