This system produces a low volume of air relative to what most air tools use and you have to have the engine turning the compressor, so it needs to be running. You could go up to fast idle to help the recovery time but this system was not really designed for air tools. It will not hurt anything to try but don't expect this to work for impact wrenches and sanders etc.
