Photo Resizing in Windows 10?

Apparently Microsoft didn't include the resize/compress photo features in W10. (I run W7 so not sure). If anyone has resized or compressed photos using  W10, please send me an email describing the procedures  you used so we can add W10 instructions to the photo resize guide.

I use Microsoft Office 2010 in Windows 10. Go to All Apps, Microsoft Office Folder if that is how you organized Office, Microsoft Office Picture Manager, Select a Photo, Select "Picture" on the header bar, a drop down menu appears, select compress, there are three size compression options, you can select each one to see the expected file size. They are labeled documents, web pages, and email messages. These size and compress options are also available from an Edit Pictures tab along the top of the panel.

This is not what I would have wanted as a method to compress a photo out of Windows 10 if I had a choice. Ridiculous to have to take a side trip to Office to compress or resize a photo in my opinion. Hope this helps.

It is inefficient, but I use Picassa where I can both crop and resize.  Picassa is a Google free app.

Same procedure that I have used in a few different versions of windows including 10.
1.  I right click on the photo
2.  select "open with"
3.  select "Paint"
4.  Select "resize"
5.  In the box labeled Horizontal put "50"
6.  Select "OK"
You may have to repeat to get it small enough.

The problem with paint is it has a resize feature that can reduce the picture size in order to make a smaller file size but the photo ends up smaller. In higher resolution photos that gets to be an issue.  It is better if you can keep the photo size more appropriate and find a compress option. Microsoft, it seems, is not willing to give us an easy option. Hope someone finds an easy compress method in Windows 10.

The other option that I use most of the time now (which is a shame due to Windows 10 limitations) is to take a photo with my Iphone and use the send via Email feature which then pops up options as to the size file you want to send. That takes care of the compression needed before windows has its hands on it. I select an option that ends up around 100k file size, send it, and then save the photo on my computer in Windows 10. The problem I find at times is the picture is upright in Apple and Windows 10 when saved, but can rotate going to the forum in a post and the whys and the whens as to if and how it happens is just a mystery.

Ed, you're right about Paint making images smaller.  But I've not had much of an issue with that in most applications.

For this forum for example, I commonly take a photo with one of our compact cameras, load it on our Vista or W10 laptop, and use Paint's Resize/Skew feature at 30%, much as Jerry describes.  It resolves and sizes within guidelines quite well for the purpose on the webpage.  But mainly it's about as easy to do, and to instruct others about, as can be.  That's a lot of what we're aiming for in the photo posting guide.
