Loss of Dash Instruments 07 patriot
« on: January 14, 2017, 06:03:38 PM »
Engine starts no problem.  overnight....turn on key...dash instruments do not come up.  the small panel where I normally view eng. temp, oil psi and fuel % lights up but has not indications.   affects speedometer, oil press, trans temp, r&L air compressor pressure. Happened once before, actually while at a dealers. It was a bad connection in the run box in the eng. compartment.  unplugged a connector, blew out dust? reconnected and was back in business.  Tried this now but no results.  Suggestions?

Bob,

If you spray those plug contacts with Corrosion X you will not have that problem again. It is available on amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Corrosion-X-90102-Anti-Corrosion-Lubricant-16-Ounce/dp/B003HFTI0S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484430643&sr=8-1&keywords=corrosion+x

I spray any plug or connection that is likely to see moisture or any one like this one, where oxidation caused a fail. Great product...

    Hi Bob,
Another thing to consider when pulling a "Molex" plug apart is this, carefully inspect the male and female pins inside the plug ends. Sometimes the little ears that lock the pins in place are not engaged. This allows the pins to push each other back inside the plug when assembled. If this happens, now you just have the tips of the male and female pins touching each other trying maintain continuity. If there is any amperage going thru this connection, the resistance will cause it to heat up and when turned off it will cool and create an open circuit. Tough to trouble-shoot!
    Hope this helps, Regards, Fred

Bob
could you describe the connector, its location and anything else that might help locate it?
Someone else with a 07 Thunder might find it helpful.
