Air Dryer filter question
« on: February 17, 2017, 04:44:33 PM »
Owner's manual for our 2004 Monterey lists DQ6032/DA33120 as the Air Dryer filter for our RV.

When I Google that part number I get DQ6036/DA33120.
1) Is DQ6036 the replacement part for what's listed in Owners manual ?
2) Or is that part number a combination of Part DQ6032 and DA33120 ?
3) Are both filter and cannister needed to replace AD filter ?

Thanks in advance, trying to DIY as many filters as I feel comfortable with on our RV.
I have never attempted to replace this filter before so all info/help would be appreciated.

Darrell,
First off, do you really need to replace the filters? When you drain your air tanks do you get any moisture out of them? Does the air dryer cycle like it is supposed too? When the air compressor pumped up the tank pressure do you hear the dryer dump when the compressor hits the cut off?
With our coaches and with the amount of use we will probably never need to replace the filters unless you see moisture/water out of your air tanks.
For severe service they say 100,000 miles, for a line long haul truck its 300K.

Darrell,
I agree with Lee about your air dryer. My coach is a 2000 model, and at 165,000 miles, I have never serviced the air dryer because I have never seen a need. However, I normally travel in dryer areas that do not put an excess moisture load on the dryer.

Thanks Gerald and Lee,
Air dryer filter was last replaced in 11/2011. I am having no issues with air system, it functions properly.
I assumed the filter required replacement every 3 to 4 years.

One more question - What does it mean to " Inspect and Service Air Dryer" ?
Is cleaning and maintenance required periodically without the need to replace the Air Dryer Filter ?
And if so , how often should this be done?

I am attempting to replace as many of the filters myself as I feel comfortable with before a scheduled maintenance at BCS in May and
thereby keep my maintenance costs down.

Thanks again for help and info,
Darrell Terry

Darrell,

As far as cleaning and inspecting the air dryer you would need to go to the mfg and find out what they recommend for service, you should be able to download a service sheet or manual on the dryer on your coach.

Derrell, did you ever get an answer about what air dryer to use?  NAPA gave me the DQ 6036 as a cross to the DQ 6032 required in my manual.  The 6036 does not fit and they do not have an alternative.  What did you end up using?  Thank you.

My coach (a 2005) uses the Wabco-Meritor System Saver 1200 air dryer. cartridge part number R950011.  Yours (@Jerry) looks very much like mine. Possibly Beaver-Monaco was using both models (using up old stock in 2003-04, and your coach got the newer model).

On the Wabco-Haldex website, the DQ6032 is a coalescing filter for the Haldex "Pure Air Plus" dryer. The DA33120 is the desiccant cartridge/filter.

I looked at the Haldex-Wabco "Pure Air Plus" unit and I don't think yours looks like that (based on my old and fleeting memory).

See if you can post a photo - or get the part number of the id tag on the air dryer housing.

PS. I don't know which companies all merged togehter in the truck-parts industry now - but I think Bendix, Meritor, Wabco, and Haldex are all the same.

Mike Rump had the correct PN and it is the Meritor R950011.  I ordered it from Amazon for $38.  Be here next week.  We are staying home for now until all the artificial media induced panic is done.  Probably won't leave until mid April.  See you later.
