Tag axel air pressure regulator leaking
« on: May 15, 2017, 03:56:51 AM »
We have a 07 CONTESSA with a 400hp Cat and need to replace the air pressure regulator on the tag axel.Does anyone know the part # for this or brand? It appears  to be leaking at the air pressure  guage. Can l remove the guage and reinsert with Teflon to stop the leak? Any ideas appreciated.

Bryan, Nothing special about the tag regulator. Tape it up and see if it stops leaking. Otherwise, hardware store or welding shop should have the regulator.

Bill, Thanks for the info, l purchased a new guage and Cummings put it on. We also needed a complete new air dryer as it was leaking from multiple locations.

Bryan, On your air dryer, did you find the air leaks or did Cummins? Did you have any indication something was amiss with your air dryer (symptoms) or did Cummins pick it up during their inspection? The reason I ask is that our 2005 Patriot air dryer seems to work fine, blows off at 120# like it should, so I just am wondering if there are any warning signs for a bad/leaky air dryer?

BTW, we had our coach 4 corner weighed after we bought it and we adjusted the tag axle air pressure up a bit to put a little more weight on it; also put more weight on the front axle, expected, if you think about it. Anyway, that tag axle pressure has a great deal to do with your front axle weight, just a heads up.

Bill , the air dryer leaking was discovered by Cummings. I sensed we had a problem when we parked for a week an we lost all air on our gauges when we started the engine. I then sprayed soap on all the rear engine airlines and found the tag axel pressure  guage leaking. While at Cummings they sprayed soap all around the air dryer filter and underneath where the exhaust air is dispelled. They check the exhaust area by closing off the exhaust vent and spray to see if air escapes while the engine is off. We also had air leaking from parts of the air dryer body. Hope this helps

thanks Bryan, we've no symptoms yet, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
