Duo-Therm 5 button Wizzards
« on: May 25, 2017, 02:43:53 AM »
My 2005 Beaver Patriot Thunder has 2 AC units. Front one works fine, for the rear (bdrm) AC unit, the fan doesn't seem to be working. Tried fan only, cool w/fan (auto, lo hi), nothing. I was able to determine that the compressor comes on, but no fan (Aladdin indicated 8a current draw with compressor on). Is there a reset procedure for the 5-button t-stat I can try? Fan has worked fine since we bought the MH in 2015. Any ideas that don't involve me crawling up on the roof?
Thanks for the help!

Bill,
I know that this is not the reply that you were looking for, but to diagnose your fan problem, you will need to check the voltage at the fan motor and check the capacitor. Depending on the capacitor location, this will almost always require a visit to the roof.

Bil,
The troubleshooting manual for the unit is located in the Coach Assist section accessed in the Private BAC Members board. http://beaveramb.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/thermostats.pdf   There is a reset procedure that you may want to try. See item 16 on page 8.  (Must be logged in tot he Forum).

Tried the reset, no joy! I'll have to let my extended warranty crawl up there and fix it.....

Bill,

When you turn on fan only do you hear a "hum"?  That's what I heard.  I've spent some time on the Oregon Coast this past summer/fall/winter with its salty air and after having searched the problem online, and having both units simply HUM at me without the fan coming on, went to the roof, took off the shrouds and manually turned the fan shafts which were frozen up and rusty looking.  The shafts were so frozen up due to the rust that I thought they may have been gear driven and I would break something if I turned them, but NO, its an electromagnet fan and both were very stuck!  They should turn easily.

Cleaned them up and no more issue.  Others have replaced capacitors used to "start these up" but if you can and especially if you HEAT A HUM when you turn on the fan only, try this quick method first.
