House Battery Replacement

The time has finally come to replace those 6 Interstate 6 volt house batteries.  One is down to 5 volts, so I suspect a dead cell.  They lasted 5 1/2 years and need a rest.  I have been searching the internet to decide on flooded lead acid or the new AGM type.  I understand the low maintenance value of AGM, but I also see the high price disadvantage (3 times more).  Locally I have found identical replacement Interstate replacements for $92.95 each, and Lifeline AGM for $313.95 each or a Korean knockoff AGM for $261.86 each.
Please give me your thoughts and experience with either type.

I got http://www.eastpenn-deka.com/ Decka 6 volt AGM from http://www.poseypowerbatteries.com/. They cost $200 each and have a very good warranty. They even delivered to my door as they have a route man that covers our area. We had to replace the battery rack as well and a local machine shop made one for $150. Talked to another RVer who has used the same battery over 7 years and still going strong.

I wouldn't spend the money for the AGM's.  I have  solved the high maintenance and all acid emission issues of the lead acid batteries.  In July 2007 I installed Hydrocaps and I only check the batteries every three months and they only require water every six months.  I was looking for a way to eliminate the acid as I had removed my tray twice and cleaned and repainted it.   The second time It was showing signs of thinning metal in a couple of areas so that's when I went on a diligent search for a solution, and found the Hydrocaps.  They are a little pricey but well worth it.  Information can be found at: http://store.solar-electric.com/hydrocaps.html

One note is that if you go with Hydrocaps they will be ruined if you equalize your batteries with them on. Something else that is kind of inbetween is http://store.solar-electric.com/batwatmiscap.html and actually reccomended by the same company.

Your right Richard, to solve the equalization issue I carry the original caps to install during equalization then reinstall the Hydrocaps when done.
