Aqua Hot exhaust chunks
« on: November 16, 2017, 06:04:19 PM »
There are black creosol looking chunks coming out of my aqua hot exhaust pipe.  Is this normal or is there a problem?

Except for a minute or two at startup, the exhaust should be clear.

Fred, I see carbon bits coming out of our Aqua Hot's tail pipe particularly when it gets close to doing my annual  maintenance. The burn chamber builds up soot which I can clean but the long exaust pipe will also build up soot that is not  practical to clean.

I just had the aqua hot system worked on a few weeks ago. The burner had a crack in it so it was replaced, also replaced the motor inside that circulates the fluid and replaced the mixing valve and put on a new circuit board.  I called the shop today that did all the work and told them about the chunks coming out. They told me it was more than likely residue left over from the prior owner before I had it worked on. They had me check to see if there is any smoke coming out the exhaust and there was not any, in fact it was all clear.

You might check the AH exhaust to make sure there is good flow.  If the flow is good but clear then great.
Sounds like the exhaust is partialy blocked like our hurricane was from previous owners and poor maintenance.  Once the exhaust was removed you could see how much was trapped in the pipe and muffler.  Doesnt sound like yours is as bad as ours was.  It might clear itself .

Do you have a muffler on yours?
Mike is like this drawing (except that I have about 10 ft of exhaust pipe).

NO exhaust can be used on ANY Aqua Hot.

You are right about this. black chunks have stuff coming out and everything seems to be all clear. As I indicated earlier I spent some money to have several parts changed out.

Orman, I'm confused. The post by Mike Shumack clearly shows an Aqua Hot with an exhaust pipe. It looks like a drawing from a manual. And you say no Aqua Hot should no have an exhaust. I'm 100% certain our coach has a separate exhaust for the diesel exhaust. It comes out forward of the street side rear tires. Right next to where I want to put the water softener when we are in a campground.  :)

Could you elaborate, please? Maybe we are talking apples and oranges.

Given that the reply prior to Orman's comment mentioned a muffler, I would assume Orman meant no exhaust muffler is used on an AquaHot's exhaust piping.
