Surge protector noise

My Surge protector makes a loud buzzing noise almost like a loud fart  :o when I first plug in.
It lasts 5-15 seconds depending on whether I'm plugging in 30 or 50 amp.
Is this normal? 2005 Monterey with power reel.

Ha.
Mine makes a buzzing noise then a sort of "Wap" noise when I first plug it in.
I thought the noise was coming from the Inverter.

Sounds like plugging yours in at the campground could be a little embarrassing.  ;)

Tom, I know you're looking for help here, but I'm not gonna speculate.......With ours Its more of a click, click, click sound, but we're pretty discrete out here........

I use two surge protectors (SP).  One portable that I plug into the pedestal and one permanently installed.  I don't recall either one making any noise.  The transfer switch (TS) is right next to the permanently installed SP.  I have heard the old one chatter when plugged in and make a buzzing noise when plugged in.  I replaced it a couple of years ago and only hear a "clunk" when the delay on the SP times out and it applies power to the TS.  I may be in left field here but are you sure it is the SP making the noise.  If it was the TS you may have some loose connections or relays going bad.

Jerry,
Most of the Monaco built Beavers around 2005 were equipped with Surge Guard transfer switches, so on those coaches the surge protector and the transfer switch are the same part.

Gerald, thank you!  So are they separate inside the "box?"  Can one be fixed/replaced without the other?  Or just replace the box?  Thanks again.

Other than having an experienced electronic repair technician to preform the repair task (which makes it more expensive than the price of the unit), you just replace the box.

Tom, you might check the troubleshooting guide listed at that link and call the company’s number shown there for their opinion.
