Part number for shocks
« on: May 22, 2018, 09:03:52 PM »
I have a 2007 Patriot Thunder Winchester on a series "S" Roadmaster chassis (10 shocks) with the soft/sport mode setting switch for the shocks. I can not find the correct replacement part number. I dont care about the sport/soft setting so "regular" shocks will be fine. Had Koni FSD's and liked them but cant find a fit for this coach. Does anybidy have shock part numbers?

I know the link says Monaco but the Beaver brand was a Monaco in 07.    Look at the selection and there is a set for the roadmaster  S  chassis in the Koni shocks

Paul.   KONI North America is in Hebron Kentucky   859-586-4100  If anyone can help they can with correct part numbers.   I have purchased Koni shocks for two coach's thru   Shockwarehouse.com and found the best price there.

I did a little research for my coach (2005 Patriot) and found the Shock Warehouse to be very competitive in pricing. From what I've read, the prefered setup is the Koni FSD shocks on the front to improve handling (less porpoising) and the Bilsteins on the rear (to save money).

The photo below shows the part numbers for the Bilstein and Koni FSD.

I then went to Koni website and looked up the part number but Koni does not give the bushing sizes or shock specs (compressed/extended lengths). However at the Shock Warehouse they do provide the specs - the bushings/shock lengths shown for the Koni front and rear shocks are the same dimensions (but they have different part numbers - so I suspect the internal valving is different). The Bilsteins shocks have the same part numbers for front and rear. I could not find out what is different between the Koni 8805-1004 and 8805-1005.

The same part number (shocks) are used on all the 10 bag Monaco Roadmaster "S-series" chassis up to the 2007 model.

Note that the 10-bag suspension (non "S-series") uses a different Koni shock (p/n 8805-1004SP1 (front) and 8805-1005SP1 (rear) as the mounting Eyes are different diameters.

I'm still a little confused as to what 2005-07 Beavers with 10 bag suspensions would be an "S series" and when it would not. The parts list seems to indicate that it could be either, so I would measure the lower shock "eye" diameter to be sure your getting the correct part (either the 19mm or 14.5mm lower diameter).

Just ordered the Koni 8805-1004 (qty 4) for the front of my 2007 Beaver. The lower bolt takes a 13/16 socket on the bolt head which is a 9/16 bolt. Almost the exact dimensions as the 18mm bolt with 22mm head. Point is they are definately not the 3/4 bolts.
They should arrive next week and will be installed as soon as possible. Update after the job is done.

Shocks (Koni FSD's) are finally installed. Drove from Orlando to Boston area mostly on I-81 including Fancy Gap in Virginia. The roads were horrible and the ride  unacceptable unless on a smooth road. Pot holes and bridge transitions area bone rattling - like no shock at all. Any suggestions for replacements?

While at the Albany FMCA rally I got to talk to the Bilstene guys about this.  The OEM in our coaches was Bilstene and he had a replacement right there with him at the rally.  They seem very common.  You do lose the adjustable ride and the processor units but no loss to me.
How many miles on yours?  We are close to time on shocks too with 118K.

Keith,
There is no time or mileage that dictates the proper time to replace shocks on cars, trucks, or coaches. The only reason to replace shocks is to correct a problem like leaking, worn or broken mounting, or a ride control issue like porpoising. I sold my last coach with 175,000 miles on it and it still had the original shocks that were riding as good as it did at 50,000 miles. Some people like a firmer ride than the OEM Bilstein shocks provide, and for them that is a ride control issue, so they should get Koni shocks to stiffen the ride. But no shock is going to make a road full of pot holes into a comfortable ride.
