Fuel tank overfill protection
« on: October 09, 2019, 10:06:32 PM »
Yesterday I went to my local Costco to fill up the fuel tank before our upcoming trip.  I always have a problem with the diesel foaming and belching out of the fill port and running down the side of the coach as it gets near full.  So I used the wooden triangle to set the fill rate very slow as it got near filling.  I was watching very closely, but the Costco guy yells "Sir, you have a leak!!!"  I shut it off and looked under the coach and saw diesel flowing out of the middle between the front tires in a steady stream.  After a few seconds it stopped.  Very embarassing, I apologized to the Costco guy as he sopped up a gallon or so of diesel.  So, the question is: does the coach have overfill protection?  Did the pump not shut off because I was using the wooden triangle or because the flow rate was very slow?

That same thing happened to me when topping off my pickup with gasoline last week.  My guess is when the nozzle is held manually just slightly open causing a very low fuel flow, then the nozzle's auto shut-off function is disabled.

BTW, we got to Fallon, NV today... filled the coach at Pacific Pride in Winnemucca, NV on the way through.  The fuel prices, while usually lower than in my home area (Hermiston, OR) are way higher here in Nevada.  We usually stop overnight and fill at Amargosa Valley, NV where the prices are usually the cheapest around.  My brother-in-law, now in Pahrump, NV, said Amargosa Valley's two stations' prices are $3.45 per gallon.  He said Pahrump's prices are closer to $3.00 per gallon.  The diesel price at the RV park where we're parked in Fallon is $3.29 per gallon.
