High pressure A/C line size?
« on: August 14, 2018, 03:04:55 AM »
Hi all. The crimp fitting that connects the high pressure a/c hose to the metal fitting (which then connects to the compressor on the engine for my dash air) has rusted and split. I think I have found a product that would allow me to replace the fitting myself but I’m not sure of the hose size. Here’s the link to Airsept page: http://www.airsept.com/Products/Details/44
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. I’ll attach a photo of the rotten fitting when I figure out how to reduce the file size.

The link you provided looks to be for rubber fuel line to tube. Low pressure hose/connections.

I think you are wanting to cut off the fitting and reuse the threaded end to connect to your compressor. Then you would be trying to connect the old hose to the old fitting (just replacing the crimp section). That doesn't sound like a good idea. And I doubt you will find any splice connector to do that.

AC hose is typically measured in "dash size", where the dash number is a multiple of 1/16". So "-8 hose is 1/2" (inside diameter = fitting size).
See the link and compare the OD of the hose you have to the dash size. http://www.techchoiceparts.com/ac-fittings

I think you would be better off cutting the hose off a foot or two from the end (as far back as you can get and at place where you have room to work to install a splice), then get a new piece of hose made up with the proper fitting to connect to your AC compressor.

Splice the old rubber hose to the new rubber hose with a "compression style" fitting for hyd hose, such as http://ph.parker.com/us/en/42-series-fittings/20642-10-10  Or use one of these AC hose splice kits https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-65202-800-672.aspx

If you cut off the end and bring it to NAPA parts store, they can match it up and make up a new short hose with fitting for you. Then you will know what size splice to get (they may even have a splice kit in stock).

Eric, here is a web site, that will build #8 high side, and #10 low side fittings with barbs that don't require crimped fittings. https://coldhose.com/  Ask for Matt. I used 2 band clamps on each fitting to connect rubber hose to fittings. I will try to post a picture of fittings and clamps. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had a place make me a fitting that I could splice in and it seems to have worked. Thanks again.
