Question about battery charging type
« on: September 08, 2018, 03:59:46 AM »
Hi,

So quick question, we have the Xantrex 458 Freedom 20 charger which allows you to select and charge a particular battery type. We have Series 24 batteries which I am guessing is a wet battery. The default charging is  set is Gel Type. Any thoughts about how important the settings are? Thanks

The 24 series is "wet cell" (lead acid) type. Since you know where the settings are, why not just switch to the correct battery type?
From reading the Inverter manual, when you select Gel type battery, the charging rate is lower than for other battery types. The chart in my manual (below) shows the charging rate to be lower - but that chart is in the section for "deep cycle batteries" and the Series 24 is not a deep cycle (it is a chassis battery).

Jason,
Are you sure your house batteries are Series 24? As Mike and Gerald noted, the Series 24 are 12V. House batteries are normally 6 volt (golf cart type). Normally you would have 2 chassis batteries and 4 house batteries.
