Excessive AMP Discharge while driving
« on: October 06, 2018, 05:08:35 PM »
We have an intermittent discharge on the house batteries of 255 AMPs from anywhere from 15 seconds to three minutes. Then discharge drops to 25 to 45.  Could the primary positive lead to the inverter grounding out reflect the 255 AMP discharge or could it be the inverter?  Generator being on has no effect. House batteries continue to maintain 13.5 volts throughout.

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,
It is not a shorted battery cable because a grounded positive battery cable will draw a lot more than 225 amps and immediately blow the main fuse for that cable. It sounds like you may have a sensor issue unless you have the inverter on and something like an electric heater or curling iron on that is drawing about 10 amps 120 volts AC. However the battery voltage would drop considerable with a 225 amp draw unless you have the engine running for the alternator to supply battery power.

Gerald,
We have nothing on but the fridge.  It started while driving this morning but now it’s doing the same thing while parked and Larry is out checking the batteries. Thanks for your info.

Could this just be a bad amperage meter (I assume your reading this discharge through the Aladdin system)?

Is there any evidence that the discharge/drain is real - like hot battery cables?
