Kent, a couple of years ago when he updated the cabinetry and audio/video for the living and bedroom on our coach, Bill Sizemore in Bend (RV Outfitters) replaced the “old” Sony 6-disc changer/home theater with a Sony BVD-E3100. The unit was a bit over $300, and he didn’t use the included speakers, as the factory Bose ones were at least as good. The existing subwoofer hiding under the dinette is considerably more substantial than the small one included with the 3100.
The amp/receiver side of the unit isn’t as powerful as one might put in a house, like our old Harmon-Kardon or our new Yamaha 685, but is great as a relatively small all-in-one for an RV with limited interior volume. The 6-disc changer feature was nice on the Sony he removed, so it’s in our home bedroom now, and the only part I miss in the Coach. We could keep several favorite music CDs in it, ready to go, and pop movies in and out of one empty slot as needed.
Otherwise the new Sony has HDMI ports and some features like video streaming and connectivity that the old one didn’t, and it’s considerably slimmer. That leaves more room for better cooling air circulation overall around all components in the already warm cabinet.
