Sani-Con
« on: February 22, 2019, 05:08:04 PM »
While dumping, using the Sani-Con, the pump suddenly stopped.  I had finished dumping the black tank and was in the process of emptying the gray tank when it suddenly quit.  I did a little research and found the 20A fuse behind the panel in the bathroom labeled Sani-Con might be the culprit.  It was blown so I thought replacing it would be all that was needed.  I put in a new fuse went outside and turned on the pump switch and nothing.  Came back inside to check the fuse and it was blown.  I put another new fuse in and repeated the process and this time the pump ran for a second then quit.  I went back inside to check the fuse and it was blown.  What should the next step(s) be to identify the issue?  Thank you!

Sounds like your macerator pump is jammed. Try turning it manually to clear any jam.

If you have had any female guests who may have used the head, then you could have a sanitary napkin, tampax, etc., stuck in the macerator.  That happened once to our macerator/pump... and that was after clearly instructing the granddaughters to not dispose of them by flushing.

Macerator was jammed with baby wipes.  Neglected to tell 4 day visitors to only use the RV toilet paper in the commode.  Lesson learned in that regard and also on how to take apart and unclog the system.  It was a messy job but hey, somebody's got to do it.  Thanks for the replies!

In the recent class put on by Sani-Con they could not emphasize enough that the only thing that should go into the black holding tank was RV toilet paper in the macerator toilet unit and regular toilet paper was OK in the toilet that was direct above the black holding tank, in a two bathroom coach, if you did not use RV toilet paper in this toilet.

He indicated you would only have to clean the pump unit once to be sure you emphasized this to all occupants.

Why in this day and age anyone would be putting baby wipes down any commode, much less in an RV where even multi-ply paper is discouraged, I just don’t get.  They belong in the garbage can.  Our local sewer utility warns about even so-called “flushable” wipes.  They aren’t really so flushable, to the extent legislation has been proposed to ban any wipes being labeled as such.

I see you got yours fixed, but My macerator is on the way out, it runs for about 2 minutes, overheats, then 1 minute off,  them comes back on for another minute or so, and will cycle on off 10 times on one dump cycle.

To get cleaner tanks, consider not using a macerator. It drains too slowly to set up a vacuum pull in the tank and thus can leave debris behind.
