Thank you, Gerald for explaining the operation of the diesel fuel regeneration system. The CAT C9 400 hp  is a very good, durable, trouble free low cost engine. Adding the diesel fuel regeneration system along with the added horsepower has turned this fine engine into a problematic, high operating cost engine IMHO. Failures related to the regen system contribute the most cost. Common failures include temperature sensors and cracking within the ARD head, which are very costly. The turbocharger can fail multiple times due to the high heat generated.  Gerald is correct that $20,000 is about right for change out to a C9 and the resultant impact on the value of the motorhome. However, recurring repairs on the C9-S can run $12-$18,000. This high cost proposition has been faced by several owners.
