Aqua Hot System
« on: April 13, 2019, 12:38:44 AM »
An IFY Question, I am stuck in Des Moine Ia in low 30 degree weather and wanting to know if I can run the Aqua hot on both electric switches and the Diesel at the same time.  The water coming into the coach is very cold for the shower and does not get the water very hot?  Any assistance will be appreciated.

You can have the diesel burner on, have the electric water heater on (if plugged in or running the generator) - one or the other, or neither, or both.  So... yes, you can have the diesel burner and electric water heater on at the same time.  A note: Our AquaHot has separate on/off and high/low thermostats, four of them, two for the diesel and two for the electric, and the electric thermostat shuts off at a higher temperature.  So as the coolant cools in the AquaHot, the electric will turn on first... then the diesel burner will turn on second when the coolant gets to a slightly lower temperature, 5* or so cooler.

Yep, I do it all the time. The electric helps some but will not keep up with the demand for heat so... your Diesel will kick on.... a lot, depending outside temps.

"Normal" is diesel.  It has something like 50,000 BTUs of available heat.  Electric has about 5,000.

Rocky, your thermostatic mixing valve located behind your AQ can be turned up to increase the hot water temperature. Also it's a good idea to exercise this valve at least yearly. Fyi
