Invertor Freedom 10
« on: May 13, 2019, 11:52:31 PM »
Well now that I have replaced my Transfer switch I have power to everything but the battery charger side of the invertor is not working. I have power on all sides of the breaker panel. Nothing lights up on the monitor panel that there is charging going on. All systems work if I turn the invertor panel to the on position. In the off position none of my lights work with the generator running. But my ac's work fine. I found out my shore cable was wired wrong so when I plugged it in it took out the transfer switch and looks like maybe fried my charging side of my invertor/charger. Neither reset button on the box did anything as they seem to be both pushed in. Any help? Can this be saved or time for a new one?

When bad shore power fried my transfer switch it also fried the charger section of the inverter.  Was a great excuse to buy a Magnum.

Jerry, I'm afraid that is the case here. What is a Magnum?

Some coach experiences can lead to a magnum of champagne, or more commonly something less fancy and stronger, but Jerry means the well-thought-of inverter brand.   https://www.magnum-dimensions.com/renewable-energy-products/inverter-chargers

Mark, as Joel says it is an inverter brand made in the USA.  In my case I bought an MS 2800.  It is a pure sign inverter and it increased the power levels that my coach would support.  Good luck.

Hi Mark, If you are looking to save some money, I have a used Freedom 25 with the remote for $150.00 plus the shipping. It is a larger version of what you have. It's output is 2500 watts and the one you have is 1000 watts. The charger part of it can charge your batteries at a rate of 100 amps when in "bulk" charge. Let me know.

When our inverter/charger lost its battery charging function, we replaced it with a Xantrex Freedom 3000 watt unit on the advice of the company doing the work.  The old unit was a Xantrex Trace 2500 watts.  I asked the company owner why he recommended a Xantrex over a Magnum but don't remember hearing a good solid reason.  As I recall, he said they're both virtually the same, just different manufacturers, and he deals regularly with both brands.  So far, so good after several years.  I will say the Freedom 3000 is much easier to program than the Trace 2500 was.

All systems work if I turn the invertor panel to the on position. In the off position none of my lights work with the generator running.

The manual says the 120V feed through the Inverter continues to provide power even when the Inverter is Off. You should still have power for lights and receptacles unless of course something internal in the Inverter has gone bad. Also, the Inverter should be left in On position all the time (per manual).

Are you sure you have 120V going "into" the Inverter. The Power switch only turns off the battery Charger. I would double check the feed at the Inverter. Note that power going into the Inverter comes from the 30A breaker on the main panel.

But my ac's work fine.
The roof AC units are powered directly from Generator or Shore Power and do not go through Inverter.

The wiring diagram says the Inverter is a "Freedom 200" model (are you sure yours is a "Freedom 10"?. of course wiring diagram could be wrong).
