2006 Thunder rear power receptacle in engine
« on: May 21, 2019, 12:35:37 AM »
Hello

On our Coach on the top left corner looking at the engine their is a gfci decora receptacle with a plug inserted in it I presume it is for the engine block heater. The box has no power running to it and I am not sure where the circuit breaker is for that box? I thought it might be tied into the Aqua Hot preheat so i hit that switch and still no power to the receptacles so I am at a loss where to look as it would be nice to have 120v power back there sometimes.. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Paul

Isn’t there a switch (marked “Block Heater”) in the drivers area that has to be on to supply that outlet?

Paul, I seem to recall the outlet is dedicated.  It only comes on when the electric block heater is on in the driver compartment.

There should be a switch on the dash to turn on the Block Heater receptacle.

Paul,

On our 06 Thunder the block heater is controlled by a button on the multiplex switch pad on the closet side nightstand marked ‘Block Heat’, it controls a relay behind the drawer under the washer/dryer. I’ve found no other switch for the block heater, not very convenient.

Paul, and others,

This must be a prime example of no 2 coaches being built the same.

The receptacle in the rear engine bay is for the block heater and on my coach there is a switch on the side panel among all the other switches. Plus there is a dedicated 15 amp breaker in the electrical panel above the driver window.

Unless it’s cold and I plan to use the block heater, I generally leave the breaker off as one time we returned and I was trying to determine what was drawing power - our little dog had switched the block heater on; not really needed when it was 75 outside!

The location of our block heater switch is very inconvenient, the next time I have our coach in for service I’m going to have one of the multiplex switches in the galley reprogrammed to control the block heater. I had the two spares in the galley programmed for generator start & stop and one near the entrance programmed for a lighting master.

Our dog turns stuff on and off too, like docking lights and starting the generator in the middle of the night, but she uses the multiplex pads on the nightstands. :D
