Silverleaf and Generator
« on: June 14, 2019, 10:29:50 PM »
We have just returned from our first trip with our Marquis!  What a wonderful RV is all I can say!!  Me and my 16 year old son knocked out alot of our "to do" list the 15 days we were in Mexico. 3 water leaks fixed, water damage underneath the wet bay fixed and sealed, roof clean and painted, replaced 2 vent caps but also discovered the cap for the fridge needs to be replaced, front and back light markers and all side markers replaced, fixed water system on batteries and removed old 3m bra and replaced all inside lights to LED!

So we noted a few things and my better half had posted about the insta hot.  Never got it sorted but we did find it was not connected to a water source.  Future project by to be done by Sept.
Okay, noted silverleaf doesn't work with the generator on.  Is this normal?  Also noted all the top side marker lights do not come on but all the lower ones do.  I couldn't find a switch.

Suggestions???

Mitch.

Mitch,
Glad you are enjoying your coach. We had a 00 Tourmaline. Couple of areas to check re the upper clearance lights; TB1-1 in the front electrical bay should be  the parking light terminal (based on the dwg I have). Verify that the nut is tight and there are at least 2 wires on it. I think the parking and clearance light are all wired together so the relay and thermal breaker are probably OK since your lower lights work. I suspect the clearance lights are fed by a wire from the lower light circuit and I'd guess it is in the front cap. So you may want to see if you can locate the connection at the front clearance lights. Either remove the end lights to see if a wire is there with a poor connection or use a wire tracer connected to TB1-1 or a parking light hot terminal to see if you can tell where the wire runs. It's also possible that you've lost the ground to the upper lamps. You can check this with a multimeter.
Am I correct in assuming that the Silverleaf doesn't work with the generator on and ignition on? The Silver Leaf needs igntion power to operate.

Thank you for sending me in the right direction on the marker lights!  As for the Silverleaf it turns on and works as it should when starting the unit.  I had the generator on and started the unit but noted the Silverleaf had a bunch of code numbers and doesn't respond at all.  I turn off engine and shut down the generator then started her up and the Silverleaf works.  I did take a picture of the screen with the generator on and will add that to this post later today.

Laurence,
Congrats on your experience with the Marquis! I'm curious. What did you do to remove the 3M bra, and how long did it take to remove it? What did the clearcoat look like. Can you post a picture?

Thanks.

Mitch,
You are getting noise spikes from the Geni that are messing up the Silverleaf. I had same problem on my Marquis. Fix is to add a diode between 12v and gnd to the Siiverleaf. Just be sure the band on the diode is on the 12V side.

Stan,  I purchased all three items from Amazon.  Steamer to soften the 3M bra,  I used plastic razor blades to scrape the 3M bra and I used Orange SOL to clean up the sticky bits.  What I removed looked great and the clear coat was fine.  Previous owner tried and did some damage and gave up.  Your looking at about 8-10 hours to full remove.

Steve,  would you happen to have a link for the diode?  This sounds like an easy fix but I want to ensure I get the correct diode.  Thanks!  Mitch

Mitch,
Any rectifier diode will work as long volatge level is ~ 50-100 v. Any electronics store (Radio Shack, Frys, maybe Best Buy) will have them.  Here's a link to Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/CHANGRUN-1N5401-Rectifier-DO-201AD-Diodes/dp/B07GLPN2T4/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=5MKGDSP18KM5&keywords=rectifier+diodes&qid=1560632759&s=gateway&sprefix=rectifier%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1
