Another Inverter Lesson Learned
« on: September 13, 2019, 11:38:06 PM »
Those of us who use a modified sine wave inverter must be vigilent in what we leave plugged into our AC electrical systems. We have had a electric blanket burn up when it was left plugged in but not turned on while activating our inverter. Recently we purchased an inexpensive coffee maker from Black and Decker which was the same model as our previous coffee maker and had the same experience with wires burning smell while the coffee maker was plugged in but not turned on. Hope this experience helps someone else.

Bryan,
I'm not convinced a modified sine wave inverter that is working properly was the cause of your problems. Modified sine wave units affect devices with AC motors to the greatest extent. They can cause an extensive heat build up that can result in failure. Sensitive medical equipment such as CPAP units that are designed for a full sine wave supply can also be impacted.
